Mississippi’s newest city, with a long history
Gluckstadt was settled in 1905 by German Catholic families from Indiana. The name means “Lucky Town,” and the community still hosts a German festival each year on the grounds of St. Joseph Catholic Church. After years of court proceedings, the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that Gluckstadt could incorporate, making it Mississippi’s newest city.
