Sod installation
Sod gives you a finished lawn the day it’s installed, with no waiting for seed to fill in and no bare soil to wash away in the next storm. It’s a common choice for:

Getting sod off to a good start
Mississippi State University Extension notes that professionals lay sod year-round unless the ground is frozen or the fields are too wet to harvest, but warm, dry weather calls for extra irrigation. In peak growing conditions, sod begins to “tack down” and root in within about a week. What makes the difference is preparation and follow-up:
- Soil preparation: removing debris and dead turf and grading the surface so water drains away from the house. On heavy central Mississippi clay, this step matters.
- Tight installation: pieces laid snugly together with no gaps or overlaps.
- Water right away: new sod needs consistent moisture until it roots. We’ll explain how to water it, and an irrigation system makes it much easier.
For developments, local rules can require sod. In the City of Madison, for example, the landscape ordinance calls for solid sod or erosion-control blankets on slopes of 3:1 or steeper.
Mulch installation
Mulch finishes planting beds and does real work for your plants. A layer of mulch helps hold moisture in the soil during summer dry spells, keeps soil temperatures more even, slows weeds and gives beds a clean, uniform look. We spread mulch at an even depth, keep it pulled back from shrub stems and tree trunks, and leave crisp bed edges.
Pine straw installation
Pine straw is a Southern classic. It gives beds a natural, finished look, knits together so it stays put on slopes better than many mulches, helps hold moisture and suppresses weeds. What sets a pine straw job apart is the detail: even coverage, straw tucked neatly at the edges, and trim, clean lines along lawns, walks and drives. It’s a finish our clients notice.
Pine straw and mulch both break down over time and fade in the sun, so most properties benefit from a fresh layer regularly. It’s one of the easiest ways to make a landscape look cared for before a party, a listing photo or the spring season.
